Inaugural Healthbox Nashville Accelerator Program Advances Seven More Companies
Nashville, TN. – December 10, 2013 – Today Healthbox, a leading business accelerator focused on healthcare technology and technology-enabled companies, will once again bring industry leaders together in Nashville for Innovation Day. The event is dedicated to showcasing the challenges solved by the seven portfolio companies that went through the accelerator program. Taking place at the Nashville Music City Center, Healthbox is hosting the event with anchor partner, BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, strategic sponsor, HCA, and community partners including the Nashville Health Care Council and the Nashville Entrepreneur Center.
“Nashville’s healthcare sector serves as a model for other cities on how to leverage the expertise and resources of a community to build companies positioned to impact the industry,” says Nina Nashif, founder and CEO of Healthbox. “By collaborating with our partners in Nashville and the larger Healthbox network, we will continue to help these companies expand their reach across state and throughout the country.”
In September, Healthbox, BlueCross, HCA and the community partners challenged the companies to expand their thinking to ensure they were building a scalable business, which is not easy in healthcare. Over the next four months, these companies have met and exceeded their own expectations. The accomplishments include further defining and validating development roadmaps, fostering new relationships with key stakeholders, building additional product lines and recruiting management and advisor teams.
“BlueCross strongly believes innovation is the key to providing the best care at affordable rates for our members,” said John Giblin, executive vice president and chief financial officer for BlueCross. “Working with Healthbox, and the entrepreneurs Healthbox supports, we are able to make sure these new ideas improve health care quality and affordability right here in Tennessee. As an established company, we understand that offering our resources and insights to their new thinking can accelerate the next wave of solutions that may ultimately benefit our members and the state.”
