The annual NEXT Awards were developed by the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce and the Nashville Entrepreneur Center to spotlight the companies and individuals whose drive and entrepreneurial spirit are making a significant impact on our region’s economy. Nashville’s most impactful business leaders in the city’s most influential business sectors are recognized in the fields of digital media & entertainment, health care, products & services, social enterprise & sustainability and technology. Along with these category awards, individual awards are given for Entrepreneurial Partner of the Year, Young Entrepreneur of the Year, Innovator of the Year, Entrepreneur of the Year and Legacy Entrepreneur of the Year.
Girl Geek Dinner Nashville was launched in January 2014 by Kristin McKinney and Rachel Werner. Girl Geek Dinner is focused on education, collaboration and information sharing for young girls and young women with an interest in learning about technology or who are currently working in the field of technology.
In an effort to support individuals who want to develop a business idea, but aren’t ready to give up their day job, Nashville’sEntrepreneur Center is launching its new Pre-Flight program.
The center currently runs intensive 14-week accelerator programs, in which people commit full time to building their companies, and offers basic membership, with classes and networking events, but there was a gap between the two levels of interest, according to program director Robbie Goldsmith. The new program is designed for those who can’t commit to the full accelerator programs, for those whose ideas are not yet developed enough to enter the accelerators, and for those who want to bootstrap their company and are seeking additional expertise.
