CEO Letter: Making Nashville the Best Place {For Women} to Start a Business

December 9, 2020 / Share:

Yesterday, I was thrilled to read the Nashville Business Journal announcement that the Nashville area ranked among the top 15 of SmartAsset’s best cities for women entrepreneurs.

With well-known companies such as HCA Healthcare and Ingram Industries to recognizable entrepreneurs such as Cordia Harrington, Darrel Freeman and Beth Chase (just to name a few) this city welcomes, encourages and supports entrepreneurs.

As an entrepreneur who started my own business Counsel On Call in 2000, I found the Nashville business, legal and entrepreneur community welcoming, open and more than willing to share their time and thoughts to help propel me forward on my journey as a woman founder.

Now, as the leader of the Nashville Entrepreneur Center, I have the honor and privilege to work with people and business partners who give their time, wisdom, energy and money to support entrepreneurs in the same way.

Take our board members for example; Sherry Deutschmann, who after selling her own successful business, started BrainTrust, which provides resources for women entrepreneurs with unique challenges and needs they face.

In August, we hosted Pitch For Good: Women Edition; we had more than 70 submissions and local angels invested in one of the winners, Madison Campbell, founder of Leda Health and current Project Healthcare participant.

We work daily to keep the playing field level and we are blessed to work with so many women entrepreneurs – like Campbell, longtime member and Nashville Icons founder Renee Bobb, HaftaHave founder Amanda Latifi, Possip founder Shani Dowell, and so, so many more – who give us hope and excitement as we look forward to the future.

Thank you Nashville Business Journal for highlighting this honor that our city and community are thrilled to receive.
