Girl Geek Dinner- More options for female entrepreneurs!
Kristin McKinney, one of the founder’s of Nashville Girl Geek Dinners, provides us with with a little info on this amazing group!
“Girl Geek Dinner Nashville was launched in January 2014 by Kristin McKinney and Rachel Werner. Girl Geek Dinner is focused on education, collaboration and information sharing for young girls and young women with an interest in learning about technology or who are currently working in the field of technology. We partner with innovative companies to host monthly events that are geared around bringing like minded individuals together to learn in a safe and fun environment. We are also bringing monthly workshops with an emphasis around practical instruction and learning.
Girl Geek Dinner Nashville held it’s first Code+Pinot night in partnership with CodeSchool where ladies, and gentlemen, were able to come together and learn, at their own speed and on technologies that were of interest. Was a success! There is so much more to come! Our hope is to continue to break down barriers and really bring practical education, inspiration and desire to young women in this field. We are proactively reaching out to many organizations on how we can partner together on events, workshops, etc. We are reaching out to recognized leaders in their respective fields to bring their talents and expertise to our women.
We want to help continue to bringing awareness of the amazing entrepreneurial energy that exists in Nashville and the amazing talent we already have! We want to continue to nurture our future technology leaders and help them see there are role models that exist. We want to be a part of continuing to shape the landscape that is so unique here in Nashville and collaborate anywhere and with anyone who is doing great work for the betterment of our youth and women technologists everywhere!
We were honored to be asked to join forces with Design for America/ Vanderbilt and the EC/ Google to look at building a social application focused on helping young girls connect with our leading women technologists as mentors and leaders who can help guide them in their journey to become a member of the technical community.
We have partnered with HackNashville and are very excited to be able to utilize their expertise and support in seeing our efforts be fully utilized heading into the Hackathon for Change in May. It is an amazing concept and Girl Geek Dinner and our friends with Design for America are excited to be building out the requirements for the social application, as well as reaching out to high schools here in Nashville to encourage young girls, and young men, to come be a part of this process.”
