More than 140 people gathered virtually on Thursday to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment with Pitch for Good: Woman Founders Edition!
Six phenomenal women entrepreneurs pitched their businesses to an all-woman judging panel that included Shawn Johnson East, Olympic Gold Medalist, CEO and entrepreneur.
“Female founders are a significant, growing portion of our entrepreneurial community at the Nashville Entrepreneur Center. Statistics across all demographic groups show that women have a disproportionately higher impetus and desire to be business owners,” said EC VP of Inclusion and Community Relations Brynn Plummer.
August 2020 marks the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment. “While the amendment did not automatically give all women the right to vote,” said EC CEO Jane Allen,”It was the first piece of national legislation to set the stage for women’s voting rights in the U.S. Early suffragettes spent years, and in some cases entire life spans advocating for their rights, and the EC wanted to celebrate and highlight women making a change in our world today.”
The contestants were selected by an independent panel of judges who narrowed 70 submissions down to only six women based in Tennessee (or who are members of an EC program) creating good in the world via their business pursuits.
Each entrepreneur had one minute to pitch their business to the panel of judges — which included Johnson East, as well as Global Marketing Lead for Dell Women’s Entrepreneur Network Jamie Troxell and CEO + Co-founder of ST8MNT Brand Agency Bethany Newman — and a live audience.
As in the prior Pitch for Good events, the winners from each category and a crowd favorite vote received financial grants for their businesses. These entrepreneurs walked away with financial grants:
Launch Category Winner: Madison Campbell – Leda Health
Up and Running Category Winner: Stacy Baugues – PowerUp Fitness
Crowd Favorite: Brittany Cole – Career Thrivers
Thanks to our partnership with LaunchTN, Pitch for Good was included in this year’s 36|86 Festival line-up – a first time collaboration which makes it easy for conference attendees to participate. In fact, this event is made possible by Dell Technologies, EO Nashville, LaunchTN and the Kauffman Foundation, and marks the third monthly Pitch for Good event hosted by the EC.
