EC Story 9: Jackalope Brewery SipIT, Microsoft provides $500,000 Nashville grants, Pitch Course Launches

August 3, 2015 / Share:

We provide a narrative into the happenings of our local ecosystem on our Nashville EC Podcast each week.

The EC’s  monthly SipIt! series, created in partnership with The Tennessean, highlights the entrepreneurial stories of our local Nashvillians. This month, CEO and Founder of Jackalope Brewery Bailey Spaulding shared about the early days of Jackalope. Spaulding discussed how they stuck to their vision of becoming Nashville’s brewery by challenging themselves to stay local and grow with  Nashville. Spaulding also shared how key ingredients of persistence, passion and heart are key to creating a culture others want to join.

When asked what advice she would have given to herself at the beginning, her answer was immediate – patience and adaptiveness.

The EC recently hosted the Microsoft 10 launch – a celebration of Microsoft’s local business grants. Microsoft’s COO Kevin Turner was in attendance, and in celebration of Windows 10 and the launch of the Upgrade Your world Initiative, Microsoft donated $500k to Nashville organizations:

  • The Oasis Center – $100,000
  • Matthew Walker Comprehensive Health Center – $300,000
  • Boys and Girls Clubs of Rutherford County – $100,000

Returning on the podcast is our very own Entrepreneur-in-Residence Scott Rouse. Rouse talked about the common fault entrepreneurs face with pitching their business, along with the benefits in How to Create An Investable Pitch.  Our discussion included a number of topics – framing pitches to incorporate relevance and including a powerful message that elicits investor response.
