The Nashville Entrepreneur Center is excited to bring you The Twende Program. Twende is Kiswahili for “let’s go.” This is the spirit of The Twende Program: bolstering and boosting entrepreneurs of color, as individual founders and as a community. We envision a supportive, collaborative community in which each founder is able to bring their full self while holding one another accountable to reach business development milestones.


WHAT IS TWENDE?

Twende is a year-long program for entrepreneurs of color featuring:

  • Interactive curriculum workshops on actionable business competencies (sales processes, customer feedback, etc.)

  • CEO lunch with prominent Nashville business leaders

  • Founders Board learning discussions with EC alumni and fellow cohort members.

  • Unlimited access to the EC’s Advisor Network of over 290 volunteers dedicated to helping grow your business.

WHO IS TWENDE FOR?

The Twende cohort will include a diverse group from wide-ranging industries and backgrounds. Participants must meet these criteria:

01. Entrepreneurs who identify as a racial or ethnic minority in the US context (American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian American Pacific Islander, Black, LatinX, Hispanic, Middle Eastern)

02. Entrepreneurs are the CEO or Co-Founder of an existing business that is scaling its operations (around $0-$50,000 in annual recurring revenue and in growth stage)

03. Preference will be given to entrepreneurs who have completed an entrepreneurship program, such as:
PreFlight (Nashville Entrepreneur Center), The Academy (Corner to Corner), Discover or Embark Cohort (Pathway Women’s Business Center), Negocios Prosperos (Conexion Americas)

We’re thrilled to have Shani Dowell and Bill McCleskey as the Entrepreneurs-In-Residence (EIRs) for Twende. As EIRs, Shani and Bill will offer mentoring, advising and programmatic design support.

About Shani:
Shani came to the EC as a PreFlight scholar with the idea to build a tool that would enable schools to more effectively gather parent feedback. Her company Possip is now in over 100 schools across 16 states, and has been translated into 53 languages. Shani also enrolled in the first class of InFlight in November 2018 and since then has closed a $750,000 round of investment.

About Bill:
Also a graduate of the EC’s PreFlight program, Bill McCleskey is the founder of Mitech, a national provider of commercial and residential telecommunications services. Within 12 months, Bill grew Mitech to over 300 clients in multiple states. Today, Mitech has surpassed one million dollars in revenue, and Bill is a member of the Nashville Chapter of Entrepreneur's Organization, a membership of entrepreneurs whose businesses have reached a million dollars in revenue. Mitech Partners is the 17th minority-owned firm in Nashville to reach one million dollars in annual recurring revenue.
